Carl-Johan Sommar is a Postdoc researcher at Linköping University, affiliated with the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI) and Political Science (STATSV). His research focuses on sustainability governance, public administration challenges, and crisis management. He specializes in translating theoretical frameworks into practical tools for public sector professionals, addressing issues like sustainable healthcare, food poverty, and pandemic governance.
Dr. Sommar is the Director of Studies at the Department of Political Science and teaches at bachelor, master, and executive levels. His current projects include investigating the legitimacy of climate change declarations in Sweden and analyzing Nordic pandemic responses through the POLYGOV initiative. He also co-leads the Food for Urban Lives and Localities (FULL) project, examining urban food security during crises.
His research emphasizes polycentric governance structures, digital adaptation in public services, and the role of community initiatives in welfare systems. Recent work highlights the importance of open communication and transparency in crisis management, as detailed in the book *Crisis Management, Governance and COVID-19*.
Dr. Sommar coordinates interdisciplinary teams and collaborates internationally, including with institutions like University College London and the National University of Singapore. He is editor of *Linköping Studies in Social Policy* and actively engages in research schools like the Swedish Interdisciplinary Research School in Computational Social Science.
