Prof. Dr. Snezhana Filipova is a Full Professor at the Institute of Art History and Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Belgrade (2005) and has held academic roles since 1988, progressing from junior assistant to Full Professor (2014). Her career includes roles as ECTS coordinator, head of postgraduate studies, and editorial board member of academic journals.
Education: Graduated in Art History (1987, University of Skopje), Master’s in Medieval Studies (1994, CEU Budapest), PhD in Art History (2005, Belgrade).
Research Interests: Early Christian and medieval art, heraldry, archaeology, and methodological frameworks in art history. Her work bridges East-West artistic exchanges, focusing on Macedonia’s cultural heritage through iconography, architecture, and material culture.
Key Projects & Contributions: Participated in major projects like the Bargala Basilica restoration, the Moving Byzantium Project (Vienna), and UNESCO-linked initiatives. Authored six books and over 60 scholarly papers, including works on Macedonia’s medieval sculptures, heraldic symbols, and early Christian relics.
Awards: Recipient of the Herbert Manning Award (1987) for academic excellence. Active in scholarly networks including the Renaissance Society of America, MECERN, and Macedonian Archaeological Association.
Teaching: Offers courses on medieval art history, heraldry, and methodological practices. Engages students in interdisciplinary research and cultural heritage documentation.
