Dr. Aneta Serafimova is a Full Professor at the Institute of Art History and Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She holds a PhD from the University of Skopje (2002) and an MA from the University of Belgrade (1994). Her research focuses on Byzantine and post-Byzantine iconography, semiotics in art, and cultural heritage preservation. She has held fellowships with institutions like the National Technical University of Athens and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and contributed to over 40 studies and monographs.

Her research explores semiotics in Byzantine art, Islamic influences on post-Byzantine painting, and Balkan medieval art. She has organized exhibitions in New York and lectured globally, including at the British School at Athens and Université Paris 1.
Her recent publications analyze iconography in Ohrid’s Saint Sophia Church, Ottoman-era depictions in Macedonian art, and the intercultural aspects of post-Byzantine Balkan art. She has participated in 30+ international conferences and co-authored works on Macedonian cultural heritage.
