Smriti Raichand is a Research Fellow at the Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE), joining the institution in August 2023. She specializes in health technology assessment, evidence synthesis, and analysis of linked healthcare datasets to inform healthcare policy decisions in Australia.
Education:
- PhD in Public Health from the University of New South Wales (awarded August 2023)
- Master of Public Health from the University of Sheffield (awarded January 2010)
Dr. Raichand has extensive experience in systematic reviewing and meta-analyses, having previously worked on Health Technology Assessments for the UK's National Institute for Health Research. Her doctoral research focused on medicine use in pregnancy using linked administrative healthcare datasets. She has also conducted cohort studies related to maternal and child health in India and worked with the University of Sydney's Clinical Trials Centre analyzing HTAs for Australian and Singaporean governments.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise across diverse medical domains including geriatric care interventions, cardiovascular pharmacology, breast cancer diagnostics, and pharmacoepidemiology data systems. Her work consistently applies systematic review methodologies and analysis of large healthcare datasets to inform evidence-based policy decisions.
At MUCHE, Dr. Raichand works on HTA projects commissioned by the Australian Medical Services Advisory Committee and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, including current projects on liquid biopsy for lung cancer and genetic testing to predict drug toxicity.
