Sion Scott is a Dr Associate Tutor in the Faculty of Science at the University of East Anglia, based in the Department of Chemistry. He is also an active clinician at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His research focuses on healthcare practitioner and patient behavior change to facilitate deprescribing of medicines with more risks than benefits, particularly in hospital and care home settings. He leads the development of practitioner behavior change interventions and is a founding member of the Northern European Researchers in Deprescribing (NERD) network, focusing on international research collaboration.
Current research projects include:
- Co-chief Investigator for the Care Homes Independent Pharmacist Prescribing Study (NIHR TRIP, 2021-2022)
- Co-investigator for Improving Care for Patients with Medication Dependence (NIHR RfPB, 2021-2022)
- Co-investigator/Programme Manager for the CHARMER initiative (NIHR PGfAR, 2020-2025)
- Chief Investigator for Parkinson’s Liquid Formulations Study (EIRA R&D, 2020-2021)
His research interests span deprescribing frameworks, medication adherence in chronic conditions, and geriatric healthcare. Collaborations include projects with the University of Essex and Invisio Ltd, addressing medication practices in diverse populations.
Administratively, he serves on the Faculty of Medicine and Health Research Ethics Committee and is Deputy Course Director for the MSc in Pharmacy Practice.
