Siobhan Kelly

Dr. Siobhan Kelly is a Research Fellow at the University of Salford's School of Health & Society, affiliated with the Centre for Applied Health Research and Centre for Research on Inclusive Society. Her work focuses on social care for marginalised communities through projects on ageing, dementia, and disability inclusion.

Her educational background includes a BSc in Sociology and Criminology (2016-2019, part-time) and PhD in Sociology (2019-2024, part-time), both from Salford. The PhD thesis examined older volunteers' experiences in charity retail.

Research interests center on social inclusion, social justice, and community engagement in social care contexts. She employs creative methodologies and leads a five-year study to empower the social care workforce, with current projects on disability inclusion and charity retail volunteering during crises.

Recent publications reveal three thematic clusters: interprofessional education in care homes (8 outputs), ageing in community settings like charity retail (5 outputs), and post-pandemic age-friendly community development (2 outputs). Her work combines systematic reviews, qualitative studies, and policy reports addressing workforce challenges and social participation.

Available for PhD supervision in social inclusion, social care, and ageing topics. Currently leading the RCN Foundation project (2025) investigating learning disability nurses' registration perceptions and impacts on students/people with intellectual disabilities. Secured Dunhill Medical Trust funding for post-pandemic age-friendly communities research.

Active in Centre for Applied Health Research and Centre for Research on Inclusive Society initiatives, contributing to collaborative projects on social housing quality, care home innovation, and social care workforce development across Greater Manchester.
