معرفی
Simone Dumas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She holds a BSc (1995) and PhD (2004) from the University of Ottawa, alongside an MSc (1999) from Université Laval. Her research focuses on pedagogical strategies to foster self-regulated learning, including self-assessment tools and bilingual geological glossaries. She also contributes to outreach initiatives like developing educational kits for primary schools. Her geological research explores sedimentological processes such as wave ripple dynamics and stratification patterns in marine environments.
Education:
- BSc, University of Ottawa (1995)
- MSc, Université Laval (1999)
- PhD, University of Ottawa (2004)
Research Interests:
Combines educational innovation with geological inquiry. Pedagogically, emphasizes curriculum design for autonomy in learning (e.g., self-assessment frameworks, bilingual resources). Geologically, investigates sedimentary structures formed under oscillatory flows and unidirectional currents, with applications to interpreting ancient marine deposits. Her work bridges experimental methods in geology with practical educational tools.
Publications Overview:
Publications span pedagogy and sedimentology. Pedagogical works focus on assessment frameworks and bilingual terminology, while geological studies explore experimental sedimentation processes. Recent work examines fine/coarse grain differentiation in wave ripples and controls on cross-stratification patterns.
Advising & Grants:
No formal advisees listed. Active in educational outreach programs and curriculum development projects.
