Dr Simon Stevens is a Lecturer in International History at the School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities, University of Sheffield. He specializes in 20th-century international and transnational relations, particularly South Africa’s global engagements and opposition to apartheid.

Research Interests: Simon explores the global anti-apartheid movement’s strategies, including boycotts, sanctions, and the shift to armed resistance by groups like the African National Congress. His book project, Laying Siege to South Africa, examines the historical evolution of these tactics. He also investigates South Africa’s relations with the U.S., Britain, and other nations during decolonization and Cold War eras.
Articles Trends: His publications analyze apartheid opposition through transnational lenses, focusing on strategic nonviolent to violent transitions, Cold War diplomacy, and the role of external actors in shaping South Africa’s political landscape.
