Hilary Sapire is a Reader in Modern History at Birkbeck, University of London's School of Historical Studies. Her research examines African urbanization, apartheid cities, South African political cultures, and royal tours in the context of imperial loyalism. Current projects analyze Prince Alfred's 1860 tour and global anti-apartheid movements.
Supervision includes doctoral researchers working on:
- Black British engagement with anti-apartheid
- Sport in the Edwardian Empire
- Liberal opposition in apartheid South Africa
- Protestant missionaries in South Asia/West Africa
