His research centers on evidence-based transfusion medicine through systematic reviews and clinical trials, with emphasis on optimal blood component utilization across diverse clinical contexts. Key specialties include haematological applications in critical care, obstetrics, cardiology, and trauma management. With over 150 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 48) and contributions to 5 national guidelines, his work bridges academic research and clinical practice.
Recent publications demonstrate cross-specialty application of transfusion principles, spanning traumatic brain injury neurocritical care, acute coronary syndromes, pregnancy-related anaemia, paediatric intensive care, and major haemorrhage management. This reflects his focus on context-specific evidence generation through international randomized trials and multicenter observational studies.
As lead of the Murphy, Roberts and Stanworth Group for Oxford Clinical Research in Transfusion Medicine, he directs studies translating laboratory findings into clinical protocols. His involvement in NEJM-published trials highlights significant contributions to establishing transfusion standards in high-acuity settings.
