Dr. Simon Somogyi is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph's School of Hospitality, Food & Tourism Management, and a faculty member at Texas A&M University. He has held roles such as the Arrell Chair in the Business of Food at Guelph and is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Queensland. His research focuses on smart food retailing, agri-food value chains, and consumer behavior, with notable contributions to Canada’s Food Price Report. He holds a PhD in Agribusiness Marketing from the University of Adelaide and has led international projects in China, Japan, and Kenya. His work bridges academia, government, and industry, addressing food policy, sustainability, and technological innovation.
Education: PhD in Agribusiness Marketing (University of Adelaide), Honours Degree in Wine Marketing (1st Class, University of Adelaide).
Research Interests: Smart/virtual retailing, consumer adoption of technology, agri-food value chains, and food policy. His articles analyze digital grocery adoption, pandemic impacts on foodservice, and global supply chain dynamics. He has secured over $2 million in grants for projects on postharvest preservation and food innovation indices.
