Simon Sadler is Professor of Design at the University of California, Davis, where he teaches the history and theory of architecture, design, and urbanism. He is affiliated with the Graduate Programs in Cultural Studies, Performance Studies, Art History, Transportation Studies, and the Environmental Humanities Supercluster.

His research explores the collective and individual impact of design, from cities to technology, with a focus on countercultural movements, sustainable practices, and the decolonization of design history. He has authored books such as Archigram: Architecture without Architecture (MIT Press, 2005) and co-edited Non-Plan: Essays on Freedom, Participation and Change in Modern Architecture and Urbanism (2000).
Recent publications analyze topics like Archigram’s influence, hippie holism, and the social engagement of architecture. His awards include UC Davis Chancellor’s Fellow, Fellowships at the Paul Mellon Centre and UC Humanities Research Institute, and former Mellon Researcher at the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA).
He has served on editorial and advisory boards for Architectural Research Quarterly, Journal of Architectural Education, and The Architect’s Newspaper.
