Eve Blau is an Adjunct Professor of the History and Theory of Urban Form and Design at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD). She holds leadership roles as Director of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies and Co-Director of the Harvard Mellon Urban Initiative. Her expertise spans urban and architectural history, focusing on post-socialist urban transformations, oil economies, and the intersection of urban form with media and politics.
Blau's research emphasizes how sociopolitical, environmental, and technological changes reshape cities, particularly in Eurasia. She teaches courses like 'Histories and Theories of Urban Form and Design' and 'Cities by Design,' exploring urban transition dynamics through case studies such as Baku and post-socialist cities. Her work bridges academia and practice, fostering interdisciplinary urban research through initiatives like the Harvard Mellon Urban Initiative.
Her notable publications include Baku: Oil and Urbanism (2018) and The Architecture of Red Vienna, 1919–1934 (1999), awarded major prizes. Blau has curated exhibitions like 'Urban Intermedia' and held visiting chairs at institutions including the University at Buffalo and the Clark Art Institute. She advises on urban projects globally and serves on boards for organizations like the Canadian Centre for Architecture and ETH Zurich's gta papers.
Blau's awards include the 2022 American Academy of Arts and Sciences election, a Society of Architectural Historians fellowship (2018), and the Victor Adler Prize (2015).
