Seng Kuan is a Project Associate Professor and Director of the International Architectural Education Platform at the University of Tokyo, with an affiliation to Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD). His work focuses on Japan’s postwar architectural culture, structural engineering in modern Japanese architecture, and the Metabolism movement. He holds a PhD in architectural history from Harvard and has curated major exhibitions, including Shinohara Kazuo and Metabolism: City of the Future. His research has been supported by grants from the Graham Foundation and Japan Foundation.
- Education: BA, Harvard College; MArch and PhD in Architectural History, Harvard GSD.
- Teaching: Previously taught at Washington University in St. Louis before rejoining the GSD faculty.
Research interests include architectural theory, urban design, and the interplay between architecture and urban environments. His exhibitions often serve as research tools, blending curatorial practice with scholarly analysis.
