Anthony Raynsford is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at San José State University. His research bridges architectural history, urban design, and 20th-century cultural studies.
Education includes a PhD from the University of Chicago and an M.Arch. from UCLA. His current book project, Cities for an 'Open Society': The Aesthetic Politics of American Urban Design, 1940-1975, examines shifts from hierarchical to pluralistic urban models during the Cold War era.
Research explores the interplay of aesthetics, politics, and psychology in urban environments, with publications analyzing British Townscape movements, Kevin Lynch's urban imagery theories, and Baroque spatial representations.
