Dr Simon Perry is a Lecturer in Musicology at the School of Music, University of Queensland, Australia. His research focuses on music theory, analysis of late 19th and early 20th century repertoires, and Russian music history. He specializes in composers like Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Percy Grainger, exploring posthumous collaborations and analytical methodologies in music notation.
Education:
- BMus (Hons) and MMus from the University of Melbourne
- PhD in Music from the University of Queensland
Research interests include music theory, historical analysis, and autobiographical writings of composers. Perry’s work bridges theoretical frameworks with historical context, particularly in Russian compositional practices and post-common practice tonality.
His publications span books, peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters, including Music research essentials (2024) and studies on Musorgsky’s Khovanshchina and Percy Grainger’s aesthetic legacy. Perry is available for supervision and actively contributes to music history and techniques courses at UQ.
