Dr. Simon Parker serves as a Senior Lecturer in Business and Society at Bayes Business School, City St George's, University of London. He joined Bayes Business School in July 2024 following previous academic positions at Nottingham University Business School and Warwick Business School, where he earned his PhD. His academic work focuses on critical perspectives examining issues of justice and fairness in organizational contexts.
Dr. Parker's research program centers on alternative organizational forms such as cooperatives and sustainable financial institutions that challenge conventional business practices. His work frequently employs critical management studies frameworks to investigate how these alternative structures disrupt dominant ways of organizing while also examining deviant actors and misconduct within traditional organizational settings. His publications span organizational theory, entrepreneurship, business ethics, and gender studies.
His recent scholarly output demonstrates a strong focus on institutional change, organizational wrongdoing, and the relationship between gender and innovation. Parker's 2025 publications in Academy of Management Review on 'Institutional Parasites' represent significant theoretical contributions to understanding how illegitimate actors can paradoxically maintain and transform institutions. His research often employs qualitative and critical methodologies to examine taken-for-granted assumptions in organizations.
