Simon Noah Etkind is an Assistant Professor (Honorary Consultant) in Palliative Care at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge. He serves as a consultant in palliative medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and co-leads the PELiCam research group.
His educational background includes:
- Studied medicine at Emmanuel College Cambridge
- Postgraduate integrated academic training in London, Sussex, and the East of England
Dr Etkind's research focuses on improving care for people living with multiple illnesses or clinical syndromes such as frailty. He investigates how uncertainties in complex illness trajectories affect care experiences and outcomes, and develops strategies to optimize communication and care planning. His work bridges palliative care, public health, and primary care systems to enhance patient-centered approaches.
As co-lead of the Palliative and End of Life Care Group in Cambridge (PELiCam), he oversees research in symptom management, cross-cultural palliative care, community-based dignified dying initiatives, and medical education. He actively contributes to medical student teaching at the University of Cambridge Clinical School and supervises PhD students.
