Dr Arjun Kingdon is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine practicing at St Clare Hospice and Princess Alexandra Hospital in west Essex. At the University of Cambridge, he serves as a Visiting Researcher within the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (PHPC), specifically collaborating with the Primary Care Unit (PCU) and the PELiCam research group (Palliative & End of Life Care in Cambridge). His dual clinical-academic role bridges frontline hospice care with rigorous end-of-life research.
Dr Kingdon's research centers on palliative and end-of-life care with emphasis on person-centred approaches. His prior work investigated assisted hydration practices for terminally ill patients and physician communication dynamics around this sensitive intervention. Currently funded by the Edward Showler Foundation, he leads a multi-perspective study examining personalized care through the lived experiences of patients, informal caregivers, healthcare professionals, and health system leaders to transform care delivery models.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Edward Showler Fellowship for research on personalized palliative care
Dr Kingdon's current Edward Showler Foundation grant supports his investigation into stakeholder perspectives on person-centred care, though no student supervision or additional grant details are publicly documented. His clinical expertise directly informs research design within the PELiCam group, ensuring practical relevance to real-world palliative settings.
As an integral member of the PELiCam research group, Dr Kingdon contributes to projects spanning symptom management innovation, cross-cultural bereavement practices, community-based dying initiatives, medical education frameworks, and communication strategies for uncertainty navigation. His clinical insights strengthen the group's translational research pipeline from academic inquiry to bedside application in end-of-life care.
