Simon Gibson-Poole is a Lecturer at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) within the Environment & Countryside department under the Rural Economy and Environment and Society school. His research focuses on remote sensing applications using drones (UAVs) for agricultural and environmental monitoring. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2019) and has supervised multiple MSc students in UAV-based studies across forestry, biodiversity, and crop health.
Key projects include drone-based disease detection in potatoes, land management tools for Montserrat, and deer impact assessments. He has collaborated on major initiatives like the RESAS 22-27 land-use modeling program. Notable outputs include peer-reviewed articles on peatland vegetation mapping and nitrogen cycle analysis, alongside policy briefs on Scottish landownership.
Awarded the Best Poster Award (2017), Gibson-Poole frequently presents at academic conferences and workshops. His work bridges technological innovation with environmental policy, emphasizing spatial data integration for sustainable land-use strategies.
