Simon Dato is an Assistant Professor of Microeconomics at EBS Business School since 2021, serving as Academic Director of the Bachelor in Business Studies (BSc) Programme since October 2023. He holds a PhD from the University of Bonn’s Institute for Applied Microeconomics. His research focuses on Behavioral, Personnel, and Organizational Economics, combining empirical and theoretical approaches to study topics like sabotage, lying behavior, and incentive structures. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Microeconomics, Behavioral Economics, and Evidence-based Management. Dato is a member of EBS’ Research Committee and has published extensively in journals such as European Economic Review and Management Science.
His work explores gender differences in competitive environments, the role of social norms in punishment, and strategic interactions in labor markets. Recent studies include analyzing behavioral impacts in competitive settings and reproducing key findings in management science. Dato actively participates in academic conferences and seminars, presenting at venues like the Colloquium on Personnel Economics (COPE) and the Annual Meeting of the German Economic Association of Business Administration (GEABA).
Despite no explicit awards listed, his contributions to reproducibility in management research and experimental economics highlight his methodological rigor. He advises on organizational strategies for talent retention and has explored wage policies under asymmetric information.
