Silvia Ruzanka is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her work bridges media art, technology, and cultural critique, focusing on the archaeology of technology and its intersections with daily life. She explores themes like the telegraph as early cyberspace, spiritualism, digital glitches, and invisible technological phenomena.
Her creative projects span installations, performances, and virtual environments, exhibited globally at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), SIGGRAPH, and ISEA. Recent works include augmented reality fashion applications, interactive soundscapes from decaying hard drives, and a video game critiquing labor in food service industries.
Ruzanka’s research emphasizes experimental digital forms—such as AR art, 3D video projections, and glitch aesthetics—while critically examining technology’s cultural and historical underpinnings. Her publications analyze virtual agency, design methodologies, and the interplay between digital media and human experience.
She maintains an active public-facing practice, engaging with both academic and artistic communities through exhibitions, conferences, and experimental collaborations.
