Andrew W. Deutsch is a Professor of Sound Design & Video Arts at the School of Art and Design, Alfred University. He holds a BFA in Video Art & Printmaking from Alfred University (1990) and an MFA in Integrated Electronic Art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1994). His work bridges high-tech and high-touch mediums, focusing on experimental music, sound installations, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Research interests include sound sculpture, analog/digital processing, and the intersection of technology with art. Notable projects include Magic If Recordings (founded 1998), collaborations with artists like Pauline Oliveros and Tetsu Inoue, and sound/video works exhibited globally. Key awards include the 1997 NYFA Video Art Fellowship and Artforum's 2005 'Best of Music' recognition for The Sun.
His discography spans over 30 releases exploring experimental soundscapes, field recordings, and electronic composition. Deutsch is affiliated with the Institute for Electronic Art and served on the Pauline Oliveros Foundation Board. Recent projects include collaborations with Keith Rowe and Yuya Ota.
