Silvia Pescina is a Professor of Drug Delivery at the University of Helsinki since October 2019. She has held academic positions at the Department of Food and Drug Sciences at the University of Parma from 2016 to 2022 as a fixed-term researcher and has been a contract professor at the same university for courses such as Galenic Preparations and Pharmaceutical Technology Laboratory between 2013 and 2022.

Research Interests focus on in vitro and ex vivo models for ocular drug delivery, evaluation of absorption promoters, and development of topical pharmaceutical forms. Her work spans nanocarriers, bioadhesive films, microneedles, and controlled-release systems for ocular, buccal, and transdermal routes.
Scientific Projects include managing the EU-funded Micro4Nano (H2020-MSCA-RISE) and leading the NanoRet project (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-PF). She is a board member of the Italian Chapter of the Controlled Release Society and the executive committee of the ULLA Consortium (European University Network for Pharmaceutical Sciences).
