Jay Ramapuram is a Professor at the Department of Drug Discovery and Development within the Harrison College of Pharmacy at Auburn University. His research focuses on advanced drug delivery systems, including solubility enhancement, ocular/nasal/transmucosal delivery, chemotherapeutic formulations, and topical/transdermal delivery via microneedle technology. He serves as the Graduate Program Officer for his department.
- B.Pharm. - Madras Medical College, India (1990)
- M.Pharm., Pharmaceutics - Banaras Hindu University, India (1993)
- Ph.D., Pharmaceutics - Banaras Hindu University, India (1998)
His work addresses challenges in drug development, such as poor water solubility, and explores lipid-based nanocarriers (e.g., liposomes) for enhanced cellular uptake of chemotherapeutic agents. Recent publications highlight innovations in microneedle technology for ocular delivery and cyclodextrin complexes for bioavailability improvement.
Key trends in his 15 most recent articles include:
- Optimizing ocular and transdermal delivery using gels, microneedles, and cyclodextrin
- Co-delivery systems for chemotherapeutics (e.g., doxorubicin/ceramide liposomes)
- Application of supercritical fluid and hot-melt extrusion techniques
- Pharmacokinetic studies in veterinary models
He co-advises graduate students including Manjusha Annaji, Ishwor Poudel, and Nur Mita, alongside Qi Wang. His lab investigates formulation factors affecting drug permeation and stability.
