Silvia Knüppel

Prof. Silvia Knüppel serves as Professor for Product and Perspective in the Product Design programme at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam since April 2021, with an internationally recognized career in experimental and conceptual design. Her works have been exhibited at prestigious institutions including Design Museum Gent, Design Museum Holon, and Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg.

Her academic foundation includes product design studies at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and Design Academy Eindhoven. Professional experience spans international work in Paris and Dakar for Senegalese designer Oumou Sy, followed by founding her experimental design studio in 2008.

Research focuses on three interconnected domains: Experimental Design as a transformative educational tool for transcending traditional boundaries; Textile Design examining textiles' cultural and economic significance in daily life; and Sustainable Materials and Circular Economy advocating for transparent material compositions and cradle-to-cradle principles to minimize waste. Her methodology emphasizes creating novel expressive possibilities through contextual repositioning of traditional elements.

Active in professional governance as Board of Trustees member for the Raymond Loewy Foundation since 2020, her teaching legacy includes appointments at:
