Amelie Klein is a Professor for Design Related Sciences at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg. She is a freelance curator, author, and design critic, co-founding the research duo Design & Democracy. Recent exhibitions include Für alle! Demokratie neu gestalten at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn (May–October 2023) and upcoming shows at Dresden’s Staatliche Sammlungen Dresden (2026) and Design Museum Gent. She co-initiated citizen councils for these institutions via random selection. Past roles include curator at the Vitra Design Museum, where she organized international exhibitions like Victor Papanek: The Politics of Design and Making Africa – A Continent of Contemporary Design. She teaches design theory at AdBK Nürnberg and other institutions.

Her research focuses on democratizing design processes and the societal impact of design. She co-organized the Design Campus School 2021 at Dresden’s Kunstgewerbemuseum and curated Heimaten. Eine Ausstellung und Umfrage at the Hamburger Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (2021).
