Sigrid Weigel is Visiting Professor Emerita at Princeton University, where she served as permanent visiting faculty in the German Department from 2005-2016. She previously directed the Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung (ZfL) in Berlin and was Professor at TU Berlin (1999-2015). Her research spans literature, intellectual history, cultural memory, and science studies.
Weigel specializes in German-Jewish thought, with expertise on Walter Benjamin, Aby Warburg, Hannah Arendt, and Gershom Scholem. Her work examines the intersections of literature, philosophy, and cultural history, particularly regarding memory, secularization, and visual culture.
She has received significant recognition including the Aby Warburg Prize and honorary doctorates from three international universities. Weigel is Honorary President of the International Walter Benjamin Association and member of the Academia Europaea.
