Kirk Wetters is a Professor of Germanic Languages & Literatures at Yale University, where he has been affiliated since 2004. Currently, he serves as a visiting scholar at the Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung Berlin and the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach (2023–2024) under an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship.
His research explores the intersections of literature, critical theory, and interdisciplinary frameworks, with a focus on 18th- and 19th-century German and Austrian literature, theories of genre, and the historical evolution of academic discourse. Key projects include analyzing the Frankfurt School, the Positivismusstreit, and the rise of the academic edited collection (Sammelband).
Recent publications examine theoretical trends in theory history, canon formation, and the legacy of 20th-century German intellectuals like Lukács and Sombart. His work emphasizes reconstructing the epistemic cultures of academia through case studies of conferences, book reviews, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
