Anna Mayer is a Visiting Assistant Professor of German Studies at Vassar College, with affiliations in Media Studies. She earned her PhD in 2022 from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, preceded by MA degrees from Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Universität Wien.

Her research explores the interplay of digital surveillance and terrorism in German-speaking film and literature, focusing on late 20th-century works by figures like Friedrich Christian Delius and Volker Schlöndorff. She actively engages with archival materials from institutions such as Literaturarchiv Marbach, the German Federal Archives, and the New York Public Library, where her work was featured in their blog.
Anna co-curated the 2024 Spring exhibition Photography as Data at The Loeb. She recently secured a grant from Vassar’s Faculty Research Committee to adapt her dissertation into a book. Her interdisciplinary teaching includes courses cross-listed between German Studies and Media Studies, such as a class on digital surveillance analyzing artists like Hito Steyerl and projects like Forensic Architecture’s Hanau terror attack investigation.
