Sigbjørn Fossum is a Professor at the Department of Anatomy, University of Oslo (Faculty of Medicine). He co-founded the Immunobiology Laboratory and has held leadership roles as Vice Dean for Research (2007–2010) and Head of Department (2000–2003). His work bridges Immunology, Molecular Biology, and Genetics with a focus on innate immune receptors.
Research Interests:
- Characterization of NK cell receptors (KIR, NKR-P1, CD94) and their signaling mechanisms
- C-type lectin receptors in macrophages and dendritic cells
- Evolutionary dynamics of leukocyte receptor gene complexes
- Functional analysis of myeloid cell receptors (e.g., DCAR1, Mincle)
- Immune responses to pathogens and tumors
Publication Trends reveal a focus on receptor-ligand interactions, signal transduction, and comparative immunology across 20+ years, with collaborations spanning Norway, USA, and Japan.
Professional Roles:
- Vice Dean for Research, Faculty of Medicine, UiO (2007–2010)
- Head of Department of Anatomy (2000–2003)
- Board member, Biotechnology Center at UiO (1990–1997)
