معرفی
Dr. James Ryan is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine with a distinguished research career spanning over three decades. His work primarily focuses on immunology, natural killer cell biology, hepatitis C, and inflammatory diseases. Dr. Ryan completed his residency and post-doctoral fellowship at UCSF in 1991.
Dr. Ryan's research interests center on immunological mechanisms, particularly natural killer cell receptors and their role in viral infections and inflammatory conditions. His work has significantly contributed to understanding KIR expressions in hepatitis C resolution, NK cell lysis mechanisms, and the molecular activation of NK cells. His research also extends to inflammatory bowel disease, marine toxins, and the immunological aspects of hepatocellular carcinoma. The breadth of his work demonstrates expertise in both basic immunological mechanisms and clinical applications.
Analysis of Dr. Ryan's publication history reveals a consistent research trajectory with significant contributions to immunology and hepatology. His work shows increasing focus on hepatitis C and natural killer cell biology over time, with recent publications (2021-2024) examining hepatocellular carcinoma following hepatitis C treatment, COVID-19 outcomes, and surgical complications. His publications span diverse journals reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his work, from specialized immunology journals to orthopedics and gastroenterology publications.
Dr. Ryan has received substantial NIH funding throughout his career, serving as Principal Investigator on multiple R01 grants including:
- HCV resolution correlates with patterned KIR expressions on lymphocytes (R01AI083113, 2010-2016)
- Control of allogeneic NK cell lysis by lectin receptors (R01AI044126, 1999-2005)
- Molecular activation of NK cells through NKR-P1 (R29CA060944, 1993-1998)
Dr. Ryan's research has been widely disseminated through numerous publications, with significant citation impact particularly in immunology and hepatitis C research. His work demonstrates consistent collaboration with leading researchers at UCSF and other institutions, particularly in the fields of immunology and hepatology.
