Sidney Parrish Jr.

Sidney Parrish Jr. serves as Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness at Newberry College, appointed to this role in February 2024 after previously holding positions as Vice President for Academic Affairs (2019-2024) and Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness & Strategic Initiatives (2017-2019). With over two decades of higher education experience, he provides leadership for instructional programs, faculty development, curriculum design focused on career outcomes, classroom technology initiatives, and student retention strategies.

His academic credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Florida (2001)
• M.S. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Florida (1997)
• B.S. in Chemistry from Furman University (1995)

Before transitioning to administration in 2012, Parrish was an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Newberry College (2006-2012), where he pioneered the forensic chemistry program and secured over $650,000 in instrumentation grants and donations. His research background spans chemistry with emphasis on physical and forensic applications, though his current administrative focus centers on institutional accreditation, strategic planning, and academic quality assurance.

Parrish successfully led Newberry College's 2012 SACSCOC reaffirmation process and maintains responsibility for academic support services, faculty oversight, and strategic initiatives driving student persistence. His grant acquisition expertise for the forensic chemistry program demonstrates significant resource development capabilities, while his leadership in establishing specialized laboratory facilities continues to support STEM education at the institution.
