Sian Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Deputy Director of Graduate Studies at Kent Law School, University of Kent. She is also a Caseworker for the Kent Branch of the University and College Union (UCU). Her roles include teaching, research, and advocacy in human rights law.
Education: Graduated from Durham University and the London School of Economics (LSE). Called to the Bar in 1985, member of Gray’s Inn, and completed pupillage in the Inner Temple. Prior to academia, she worked as a Crown Prosecutor in Inner London and with international human rights NGOs and intergovernmental organizations.
Research focuses on human rights training, fair trial rights, prohibition against torture, and developing online courses in international human rights law and migration law. She has conducted training programs for judges and prosecutors in the Balkans and Middle East/North Africa.
In 2021-22, she participated in BBC radio discussions on asylum seeker issues. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses like International Law and Global Problems, Public Law 2, and English Law and Human Rights, as well as postgraduate modules on Critical International Migration Law.
