Shwu-Yuan Wu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His research focuses on transcriptional regulation mechanisms, particularly in the context of cancer and viral infections like human papillomavirus (HPV). Dr. Wu employs biochemical reconstitution systems, proteomics, and genomic approaches to study how transcription factors, chromatin modifiers, and post-translational modifications regulate gene expression. Key areas include BRD4 isoform functions in cancer, HPV lifecycle regulation, and transcriptional addiction in tumors.
Research Interests: Transcriptional mechanisms, epigenetic regulation, cancer biology, viral oncogenesis, BET bromodomain proteins, and chromatin dynamics.
Recent work highlights contributions to understanding BRD4's role in HPV-associated cancers, mechanisms of transcriptional control by SUMOylation and phosphorylation, and the development of targeted therapies for breast and brain cancers. His lab uses in vitro reconstitution, ChIP-seq/CUT&RUN, and mouse models to bridge basic biology with translational applications.
Lab Members: Collaborates within the Chiang lab and maintains active research partnerships in virology, cancer genomics, and drug discovery.
