Shuibing Chen is a Professor of Chemical Biology in Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, holding additional roles such as Kilts Family Professor of Surgery. She specializes in manipulating stem cell fate using chemical and biological approaches to generate functional tissues for translational research. Her work focuses on human pluripotent stem cells, including embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells. Dr. Chen earned her PhD from The Scripps Research Institute (2006), and MS (2002) and BS (1999) degrees from Tsinghua University.
Her research interests span bioactive small molecules, high-throughput screening, and chemical genetics, with therapeutic applications in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes. Awards include the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award. Notable grants include studies on diabetes genetics, pancreatic beta cell biology, and AI-driven pancreas knowledge integration. She advises students in chemical biology and stem cell research, and collaborates with industry partners like Vesalius Therapeutics and iOrganBio INC.
Dr. Chen’s lab develops scalable differentiation protocols for neurons and tissues, leveraging stem cells to model diseases such as diabetes and metabolic disorders. Her work bridges basic science with clinical applications, emphasizing regenerative medicine and drug discovery.
