Shokry Gohar is a Senior Lecturer and Arabic Language Program Director at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University, since 2005. With over three decades of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign/second language in Egypt, the USA, and Canada, he has developed innovative curricula emphasizing the Communicative Approach and authentic materials. He holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from Concordia University (2013).
- Teaches Modern Standard Arabic (Levels 1-4) and advanced courses at McGill
- Directed Arabic School programs at Middlebury College (summers 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007)
- Designed transparent program syllabi improving student satisfaction and teaching effectiveness
Teaching Philosophy: Advocates for target-language immersion, interactive environments, and psychology-based instruction. Believes in treating errors as natural components of language acquisition while valuing individual learning differences.
