Beverly Baker is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa's Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, with a joint appointment in the Faculty of Arts. Her career spans over 15 years of teaching English as a second language across Canada, Japan, France, and the United Arab Emirates, followed by academic leadership roles including Director of Undergraduate Programs at McGill University's Department of Integrated Studies in Education.
- PhD - Second Language Education, McGill University
- MA - Applied Linguistics, Concordia University
Her research focuses on critical approaches to language teaching and assessment, with key projects including:
- Language revitalization and assessment in a Mi’gmaq community (2013-2018)
- English language training and formative assessment for Quebec nurses (2010-2017)
- Language assessment and teacher development in Haiti (2011-2019)
She has received significant recognition for her work, including:
- Emerging Researcher of the Year Award (2019)
- Young Researcher of the Year Award (2018)
Current supervision includes Yiwei Qin, focusing on language assessment literacy initiatives and stakeholder engagement in professional development.
