Shivshankar Menon is a Visiting Professor and Chair of the Ashoka Centre for China Studies at Ashoka University, India. Previously, he served as India's National Security Advisor (2010–2014), Foreign Secretary (2006–2009), and held diplomatic roles as Ambassador/High Commissioner to China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Israel. He is a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (formerly Brookings India), a Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore, and a Board Member of the International Crisis Group.
His research focuses on international relations, Asian geopolitics, and strategic diplomacy. Notable works include Choices: Inside the Making of Indian Foreign Policy (2016) and The Past, Present (2021), analyzing India’s foreign policy and regional dynamics. He has held prestigious fellowships at Harvard University and MIT, and was recognized as a 'Top 100 Global Thinker' by Foreign Policy in 2010.
Menon’s advisory roles span academia and global institutions, reflecting his expertise in security, diplomacy, and geopolitical strategy.
