Shirley Yen is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School. She holds affiliations with Butler Hospital and has served as a Clinical Psychologist there since 2005. Her research focuses on identifying risk factors and developing interventions for suicidal behaviors in adolescents and adults, particularly examining mechanisms related to sexual minority youth and bipolar disorder. Dr. Yen has been continuously NIMH-funded for over 20 years, leading studies such as the Course and Outcome of Bipolar Youth (COBY) project and piloting interventions including yoga for depression and acceptance-based therapies for psychosis.
Education: BA (University of Chicago, 1990), MA and PhD (Duke University, 1995-1998). Postdoctoral training at Brown University's Alpert Medical School (1998-2000) and internship at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts Mental Health Center (1997-1998).

- Cross-cutting dimensions like positive/negative affectivity and disinhibition
