Heather T Schatten, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School and a Research Psychologist at Butler Hospital's Psychosocial Research Program. Her work focuses on identifying novel risk factors for suicidal ideation and behavior and developing real-time smartphone interventions.

Her research integrates ecological momentary assessment (EMA) with mobile health (mHealth) technologies to understand suicide risk mechanisms and develop interventions. Key areas include emotion dysregulation, non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), and technology-enabled mental health solutions.
Current funded projects include an NIMH R01 grant on proximal suicide risk factors during care transitions, NIAAA R34 on alcohol use interventions for emerging adults, and PCORI grants on youth suicide prevention. Past NIH-funded work explored speech pattern analysis for suicide prediction.
