Brandon A. Gaudiano is a Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School and a Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the Brown School of Public Health, Brown University. He is also a Clinical Psychologist at Butler Hospital, directing its Transitional Outpatient Program and serving as Primary Faculty in the Brown Mindfulness Center and Research Psychologist at the Providence VA Medical Center. His research focuses on developing psychosocial treatments for mood and psychotic disorders, emphasizing acceptance/mindfulness-based therapies, mobile technology integration, and improving transitions of care for patients with severe mental illnesses. He has authored/co-authored books on suicide prevention and mindfulness in mental health, and his work spans over 118 publications.
Dr. Gaudiano's research interests include suicide prevention, psychosis treatment, and the dissemination of evidence-based practices. He leads several NIH-funded grants, including studies on mHealth interventions for post-hospital care and yoga for persistent depression. His contributions to clinical psychology include pioneering ACT-based interventions for inpatients with psychosis and advancing the use of storytelling in therapy.
Key grants include a focus on multi-component mHealth interventions for serious mental illness (NIMH R01 MH130496), a peer narrative video intervention for chronic pain in older adults (NIA R01 AG089083), and studies on improving treatment adherence for bipolar and substance use disorders. His work emphasizes practical applications of mindfulness and technology to address gaps in mental health care.
