Professor Hamish McLeod holds the Chair in Clinical Psychology at the University of Glasgow and serves as Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. He directs the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology program.
His research examines psychological therapies mechanisms and complex intervention development for severe mental health conditions. Special expertise in psychosis treatment, metacognitive functioning, and digital health applications for relapse prevention. Current projects investigate novel therapies for distressing psychotic symptoms and cross-cultural manifestations of social anxiety.
Publications demonstrate strong methodological diversity across clinical trials, psychometric validation, and qualitative implementation research. Recent work develops digital health platforms like the EMPOWER system for psychosis management and evaluates innovative treatments including AVATAR therapy for auditory hallucinations.
Supervises doctoral candidates and leads international collaborations spanning the UK, Australia, and Thailand. Research emphasizes recovery-oriented approaches addressing self-stigma and social withdrawal in severe mental illness.
