Shiori Koizumi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of International Literary and Cultural Studies at Tufts University's School of Arts and Sciences. She has held academic roles at Tufts since 2001, including previous positions as Lecturer (2016–2023) and in the German, Russian, and Asian Languages division (2001–2016). Prior to Tufts, she taught at Bentley University (1996–2020), Wellesley College (2008–2009), Brandeis University (2007–2008), and Harvard University (1994–2000). Her expertise centers on Japanese language education, complemented by a background in music and cultural studies.
- Education: BA in Music (Ueno Gakuen University, 1979), Graduate Diploma in Piano/Chamber Music (Longy School of Music of Bard College, 1992).
Dr. Koizumi’s research and teaching focus on Japanese language pedagogy and cultural immersion. She has contributed to curricula across beginner-to-advanced Japanese language courses, including Elementary Japanese, Advanced Japanese, and Honors Thesis supervision. Beyond academia, she served as a TV drama screenwriter for NHK (1987–1988) and held roles in language schools and government projects in Japan.
Professional activities include membership in the AS&E Faculty Task Force on Work/Life Balance (2001–present). Her teaching portfolio spans over three decades, emphasizing language acquisition and cross-cultural communication.
