Sheryl Skaggs is a Professor of Sociology at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas), affiliated with the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from North Carolina State University (2001) and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Arlington (1997). Her research focuses on workplace diversity, gender and racial inequality in managerial roles, and organizational policies. She has served as Department Head at UT Dallas (2012–2016) and has held various academic roles since 2001.
Skaggs’s research explores topics like sexual misconduct in aviation, gender dynamics in leadership, and legal-political influences on workplace diversity. Her recent work includes analyzing airline passenger misconduct trends (2024) and the impact of gender diversity in Korean firms (2019). She has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2021 Inclusive Teaching Diversity Award and 2018 President’s Teaching Award.
She has been Deputy Editor of Gender and Society (2019–2023) and served on editorial boards for American Sociological Review and Research in the Sociology of Work. Her grants include studies on gender leadership (UT Dallas Social Sciences Seed Grant), work-family balance (UT Dallas EPPS Advisory Council), and diversity in Fortune 500 companies (NSF).
Skaggs’s career includes extensive editorial, research consulting, and teaching roles, spanning institutions like the University of Texas at Dallas, Tarrant County College, and North Carolina State University. Her work bridges sociology, policy, and organizational behavior, emphasizing equity and inclusion.
