Shequite Wilson-Johnson

Dr. Shequite Wilson-Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Rural Public Policy and Planning at Mississippi Valley State University, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in civic leadership, policy advocacy, and social justice strategies. With over a decade of experience in nonprofit management and community advocacy, she specializes in empowering marginalized communities through civic engagement and systemic change initiatives.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration with concentration in Nonprofit Management from Jackson State University
• Master’s in Rural Public Policy and Planning from Mississippi Valley State University

Research Focus: Her work examines rural policy frameworks, nonprofit organizational strategies, and intersectional approaches to social justice. Primary investigations include civic empowerment models for Black communities, youth mobilization methodologies, and equity-centered policy development in underresourced regions.

Publications: Recent research explores two key dimensions: 1) The role of integrated capital systems (social, financial, physical) in community revitalization, and 2) Technological interventions and family engagement models for educational equity. Her scholarship demonstrates consistent focus on measurable community impact through policy innovation.
