Sonia L. Alleyne serves as Assistant Chair and Executive in Residence at Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School, Department of Public Service and Healthcare Administration. She concurrently leads the Suffolk County Community Foundation as President and CEO. Her expertise spans nonprofit sector management, fundraising, and social change advocacy.
Education includes a BS in Economics from Northeastern University and an MPA in State & Local Government from Suffolk University. Her teaching focuses on courses like Nonprofit Management, Grant Writing, and Leadership in an Interconnected World.
Research interests emphasize nonprofit sustainability, community investment strategies, and leadership in social advocacy. Her work bridges academic teaching with real-world impact through grant management and organizational development.
Awardees include the 2024 Sawyer Business School Dean’s Excellence Award and 2022 Suffolk University Black Faculty Excellence Award. Over two decades, she has managed millions in grants, led initiatives like the Santander Bank Foundation’s United Way Program, and authored impactful reports such as Insured for Life, Redlined to Death.
She advises on governance for organizations including the Boston Arts Academy and Greater Love Community Cares. Her leadership extends to roles like Chair of the 2021 Better Boston PAC for Andrea Campbell’s mayoral campaign and gubernatorial campaign involvement for Deval Patrick.
Commitments to community include over 30 board memberships, including the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance and Fair Housing Center of Greater Boston. Her intellectual contributions focus on nonprofit resilience and civic engagement strategies.
