Shelly Miller is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Colorado Boulder, and a faculty member of the interdisciplinary Environmental Engineering Program. Her research focuses on urban and indoor air quality, airborne infectious disease transmission, and air pollution control technologies, particularly for environmental justice communities.
Education:
- B.S. in Applied Mathematics, Harvey Mudd College (1986)
- M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley (1991, 1996)
Her recent peer-reviewed publications (over 100 total) address wildfire smoke exposure, gas stove pollution, DIY air filtration, and SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Key themes include climate justice, public health impacts of air pollution, and engineering solutions for underserved populations.

Her service includes chairing the Boulder Faculty Assembly and serving as Executive Editor for Environmental Science and Technology. She leads the NSF-funded Social Justice and Environmental Quality Project in Denver.
