Shelley Eder is a Lecturer in Law at the Faculty of Arts and Society, Charles Darwin University. Her teaching areas include Legal Process, Introduction to Law, Advanced Torts, and Criminology. She holds first-class honours degrees in both Law and Sociology and is currently completing her PhD research into correctional institutions. Shelley has prior experience as a community lawyer in social security law and serves as the legal representative on CDU’s Human Research Ethics Committee, as well as a member of the Environmental Defenders’ Office NT Management Committee.
- Current PhD research: Framing Power in Prison, analyzing prison officers and systemic dynamics.
- Focus on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Justice, Poverty Reduction, and Environmental Protection.
Shelley’s research explores prison discourse, power structures, and legal frameworks in correctional contexts. Her publications address topics like Defamation, Remedies, and Prison Discourse, with a socio-legal lens on institutional justice and equity. She contributes to policy and community legal education through practical outputs like Pensions Benefits and Allowances for Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission.
Her work intersects with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to reducing inequalities and building inclusive institutions. Shelley’s recent 2024 publication extends discourse analysis to frontline prison officers, highlighting systemic complexities in corrections.
