Sheldon Loman

Sheldon Loman is a Professor in the Special Education Department at Portland State University's College of Education, where he teaches inclusive practices for students with extensive support needs to special education teacher candidates and research methodologies to EdD students. With over two decades of experience including work as a special education teacher and behavior support coordinator in California, his career bridges academic research and practical implementation.

Dr. Loman's research centers on developing evidence-based frameworks for inclusive education, particularly through his creation of the Basic FBA to BSP model which trains school personnel in function-based behavioral supports. His work addresses systemic barriers in education through practical interventions that promote equity for students with severe disabilities.

He recently co-directed the $1.25 million DiSE (Diverse Special Educators) grant, which prepared culturally and linguistically diverse special educators to support students with extensive support needs. This initiative reflects his commitment to diversifying the special education workforce while addressing intersectional challenges in educational systems.
